Spence 2011
Starting out as a fledgling group in the environs of Los Angeles, Daniel David (vocals guitar), Kelly Mead (bass), and Michael Laylee (drums) set out to record a series of four songs alongside the talents of Brett Hestla (Creed , Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) in March 2011. Joining together the unique interplay of hard-hitting rock with the more eclectic tones noted in modern-day rock, Spence emerged on the Hollywood scene having established their talent under the banner of a new tonal range.
Marked by this distinct new sound, Spence quickly attracted the attention of Hollywood’s nightlife, playing at a variety of well-known venues, including The Roxy Theatre, The Whiskey, and The Viper Room. While the bright lights and multiple bookings earned Spence a certain level of notoriety, the foursome found the town lacking in possibilities. The growing buzz that was beginning to take hold beyond Los Angeles was largely silenced by a town that was set on molding the group to fit its own brand of artistic definition, a brand that Spence did not embrace as its own. The seduction of Hollywood’s myriad nightclubs continued to call, yet Spence found itself increasingly at odds with the city’s demands to quell their pursuit of authenticity. It quickly became clear to Spence that honoring their own definition of success would necessitate their departure from the illusion of Hollywood’s gleam. Thus the decision was made to reach out to the devoted fan-base that was rapidly growing beyond the borders of Los Angeles.
Today, Spence has garnered a broad and devoted fan-base that has re-affirmed their enticing brand of musical authenticity. They continue to pay homage to this devotion by touring various cities across the country, offering performances marked by the original sound that first enticed an audience. While the band’s career is still in its infancy, they continue to find inspiration in their fans who have made both their struggles and achievements worthwhile.

Spence recording with Brett Hestla(Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day)
So over the last few months we’ve received lots of messages on Myspace / Facebook / Twitter asking the question “When are you putting out more music??”
Let’s skip the foreplay and get right to it! Let’s talk about the huge news related to our next release.
What’s going to make this upcoming record different than the last? Hmmm???
We’re proud to announce we’re going to be working with the very talented Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day)
We finished the demo stages here in Los Angeles a few months back in January. Now we’re waiting to head to Florida to do a little more pre-production and record with Mr. Hestla at the end of March.
A tour in the U.S will indeed follow up after we’re out of the studio, but we’ll save that tour details for another blog! : ]
We self produced ‘Everything You Never Wanted’ so we’re really stoked and looking forward to Brett producing this record.

What's the meaning Behind the name Spence?
Good Day… err Evening! Wait.. What time is it where you’re at? *Phew* this is difficult.. : )
Let's get straight to the point! Over time we've received quite a few messages asking the question...
“Why did you guys pick the name Spence?”
We wanted to pick a name that had an innocent childlike vibe to it for a reason. When you're a child you don't know limitations, you believe in yourself and that you can do anything. As we start growing up it’s inevitable that we encounter moments in our lives that start to pollute our hearts and minds. Day by day we slowly start losing the spirit of "I can make anything happen".
Deep down everyone knows the reasons. We slowly get broken down. Family problems, sour friendships, break ups, financial issues, death, divorce, and everything in between.
With that being said, no matter how old and how many challenges we face, I believe we all still have some of that child like spirit within us
I feel it’s that part of you that tells you 'keep going and never give up on yourself'. That inner child that knows no limitations, and hasn't been exposed to the blackened hearts we're around everyday
I’m sure just about everyone has awakened that child at some point in time and defied the world that wanted to take everything away. The name Spence represents that fighting inner child for us. Maybe your inner child spirit has a different name? What ever it may be, you cannot deny that the spirit lives on within.

What's Your Favorite Venue for Live Music?
Howdy Doo :)
The guys and I were talking about favorite venues the other day, so I thought why not post a blog about it? There are lots of great venues but there are some that stand out more than others. I’m sure lots of it has to do with preference and the vibe, so it’s probably different for everyone. Shoot.. it might even have to do with that one memory of you passed out naked on in the middle of the venue right?
Anyway, enough about my private matters ;) hahhh! j/k
I personally love the House of Blues on Sunset in Los Angeles! The sound mix is usually ace, and I don’t get watered down DRANKS . Ok... so maybe they aren’t the most unique reasons, but I’m a simple guy.. so there you have it : ]
So what’s your favorite spot to check bands out at and why do you like it so much? Don’t forget to tell us what part of the world you’re in!
